BUAA Space Law Seminar

Prof. Gabrynowicz was invited to be the keynote speaker at a space law seminar hosted by Beihang University (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) on June 25, 2010 . The seminar was titled, "The International Space Station Agreement: Legal Issues". Prof. Gabrynowicz's presentation was titled, "The International Space Station Intergovernmental Agreement". Participants included representatives from the China Institute of Space Law, the China Academy of Space Technology, China University of Politics and Law, Beijing Institute of Technology, China Space News, Hong Kong University, and the BUAA Institute of Space Law.

Pacific Rim Space Law Meeting

The National Center for Remote Sensing, Air and Space Law hosted the second Pacific Rim Space Law Meeting at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This year the meeting will cover the legal issues surrounding the use of space and/or air technology for environmental monitoring in the Pacific Rim.

Planetary Protection Subcommittee

Professor Joanne Gabrynowicz is a member of NASA’s Planetary Protection Subcommittee. and attended its meeting in Washington, D.C. The subcommittee works to reduce the risk of space contamination (and the contamination of earth by extraterrestrial pathogens) and the group reports to NASA’s Advisory Council’s Science Committee. Gabrynowicz was asked to serve on the subcommittee as a legal expert. As science improves and investment possibilities emerge, interplanetary space exploration could become privatized and private industry will require national regulation.
