The UN Principles related to the Remote Sensing of Earth from Space Adopted in 1986, The United Nations Principles Relating to Remote Sensing of the Earth from Outer Space (Principles) continue to be an important source of international remote sensing law and policy. Landsat 7: Past, Present and Future On April 15, 1999, the United States launched Landsat 7—its first major civil land remote sensing satellite mission in more than a decade. Landsat 7 continued a legacy that began in 1972 with ERTS, later re-named Landsat 1, and became part of the oldest, continuous civil land remote sensing system in the world. To mark the occasion and to learn about Landsat 7 and its place in Earth observations, Prof. Joanne Irene Gabrynowicz, with the assistance of Prof. John F. Graham, conducted an innovative graduate seminar from February through April of 1999: Landsat 7 Live: Past, Present and Future.
