Michael Dodge Michael Dodge: Michael hails from Long Beach, Mississippi. His undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion. He also completed the unique curriculum requirements for USM’s Honors College. While at USM, Michael was active in many extracurricular activities, including Beta Beta Beta National Biology Society, Catalyst Multidisciplinary Journal (publishing undergraduate research and creative work), American Chemical Society—Student Affiliates, the Honors College Ambassador Program, and the Southern Skeptics Society. Michael chose to study law after gradation from USM, and he was accepted to the University of Mississippi School of Law. His strong interest in science and technology led to a keen interest in intellectual property and other specialized areas of law. Specifically, Michael was attracted to the concept of law governing outer space, and so he began to work closely with the National Center for Remote Sensing, Air, and Space Law shortly after beginning his legal studies. Since that time, Michael has worked both as a research assistant and an intern for the Center. He helped research the legal regimes of foreign nation-states for a study for the U.S. Dept. of Commerce/NOAA that culminated in a Center article entitled: The Land Remote Sensing Laws and Policies of National Governments: A Global Survey. With fellow participant Eric McAdamis, he placed second in the North American Regionals of the 2007 Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C. Since then, he has remained involved in research activities for the Center, and has also helped to edit articles for the Journal of Space Law. He will graduate with a J.D. in May 2008, and should be the first recipient of the newly approved Certificate in Remote Sensing, Air, and Space Law. |
