The Land Remote Sensing Laws and Policies of National Governments: A Global Survey This study reviews some of the laws and policies that address the commercialization and privatization of space-based remote sensing systems, data, and data products. It contains an analysis of some existing policies, and identifies some Nations that have been reported to be commencing space-based remote sensing activities but do not yet have formal laws and policies. It also identifies some global trends and includes a Nation-by-Nation synopsis of relevant laws and policies.

The UN Principles related to the Remote Sensing of Earth from Space Adopted in 1986, The United Nations Principles Relating to Remote Sensing of the Earth from Outer Space (Principles) continue to be an important source of international remote sensing law and policy. They also continue to be controversial in terms of their interpretation. The purpose of this book is to serve both the new and more experienced practitioners by documenting a part of the Principles' legislative history. It does so by interviewing two people who served as members of the United States Delegation to the U.N. Landsat 7: Past, Present and Future On April 15, 1999, the United States launched Landsat 7—its first major civil land remote sensing satellite mission in more than a decade. Landsat 7 continued a legacy that began in 1972 with ERTS, later re-named Landsat 1, and became part of the oldest, continuous civil land remote sensing system in the world. To mark the occasion and to learn about Landsat 7 and its place in Earth observations, Prof. Joanne Irene Gabrynowicz, with the assistance of Prof. John F. Graham, conducted an innovative graduate seminar from February through April of 1999: Landsat 7 Live: Past, Present and Future. This work is a transcription of the live, real-time Internet seminar that was designed to occur with Landsat 7's actual launch.
